- This report by leading think-tank Policy Exchange shows that undergraduates and professionals think teaching is like social work or nursing. The report demonstrates how we can recruit, retain and develop a new generation of talented, inspired and effective teachers to tackle educational inequality and that we should resist calls to further ‘professionalise’ teaching in ways which only make it less appealing to the high performing graduates whom we need in our schools. The report makes a series of radical recommendations that would encourage more such people to enter teaching. Underlying all of these recommendations is a shift away from seeing teaching as a career for life but instead something that talented people can easily move in and out of.
