Primary National Strategy: An evaluation of its impact in pr

This is an Ofsted report evaluating the implementation of the Primary National Strategy (PNS). The evaluation began in September in 2004 and covered five key strands within PNS: teaching and learning in literacy and numeracy; teaching and learning across the curriculum; transition from the Foundation Stage into Key Stage 1; leadership and management; and inclusion.

An evaluation of the School Sport Partnership Programme 2005

This report looks at levels of participation in high quality PE and school sport in partnership schools. It also aims to collect information concerning involvement in intra and inter school PE and sport, the range of sports offered by schools, links to clubs, the numbers of pupils registered as gifted and talented and involvement in sports volunteering and leadership.

Vetting and Barring Scheme.

Following the Bichard Inquiry Report the Department for Education and Skills and the Department of Health are planning the introduction of a new Vetting and Barring Scheme. It is for people whose jobs will bring them into contact with children and vulnerable adults, subject to Parliament approving the necessary legislation. This document reports on the responses to the consultation.

Reducing Re-Offending Through Skills and Employment

This is a 49-page Government Green Paper which sets out how offenders can be better trained and helped to get jobs. Since 1997 the government has introduced a clearer sentencing framework a National Offender Management Service (NOMS) and more effective education and training through the Offender Learning and Skills Service (OLASS). This strategy document sets out how the government plans to build on these successes and further improve offenders’ prospects by tackling poor skills and high levels of unemployment.

Factors influencing year 9 Career Choices

This is research for the Engineering and Technology Board. This 44-page report looks at Year 9 students subject choices. It focuses on their attitude towards science and the arts and the extent of their involvement in seeking and accessing career information. The project also looked at the relative impact of gender, level of attainment and social background.

Independent School Inspections - Framework 2005.

This report outlines the framework for Inspecting Independent Schools in England under Section 162A of the Education Act 2002. The Education Act 2002 made substantial changes to the registration and inspection of independent schools. Since September 2003, new schools have had to meet the standards set out in the regulations before they are allowed to open. This document sets out the way in which Ofsted conducts the inspection of independent schools as amended by the Education Act 2005.

EiC: Managing associated initiatives to raise standards

This OfSTED report examines the impact made by Excellence in Cities (EiC) and its associated programmes on raising standards and promoting social inclusion. Independent Review of the Teaching of Early Reading

This is the first report from the Rose Review focusing on identifying the key principles of high quality phonic work. The report examines current practices for teaching children to read to ensure that the National Literacy Strategy is providing the most effective support for children's progression in reading. The final review will provide an input to the renewal of the National Literacy Strategy Framework, and the development of the new Early Years Foundation Stage.

Fudge it or Fix it?

The requirement to restructure teaching and learning responsibilities following the planned abolition of management allowances may appear a major challenge for school leaders. This is a 118-page report examining the background and attainment of minority ethnic pupils in Excellence in Cities (EiC) areas and the extent to which EiC is associated with improved levels of attainment for these pupils. This report makes use of the National Pupil Database (NPD) and information collected as part of the national evaluation of EiC to examine the background and attainment of minority ethnic pupils in EiC areas.
